Welcome to Sir. David Osunde Foundation

Sir. David Osunde Foundation website is poised to be a game-changer in addressing these challenges by providing a centralized platform for information dissemination, advocacy, and support services. Here's how the website intends to make a difference:

  • Resource Hub: The website will serve as a comprehensive resource hub, offering information on disability rights, accessibility tools, healthcare services, educational opportunities, and vocational training programs available in Nigeria. Users will have access to articles, guides, and videos covering a wide range of topics relevant to people with disabilities and their families.
  • Community Building: In addition to providing information, the website will foster a sense of community among individuals with disabilities, caregivers, advocates, and service providers. Through forums, discussion boards, and social media integration, users can connect with others facing similar challenges, share experiences, and offer mutual support.
  • Advocacy and Awareness: The Sir. David Osunde Foundation website will serve as a platform for advocacy campaigns aimed at promoting disability rights, challenging stereotypes, and raising public awareness about the needs and capabilities of people with disabilities. Through blog posts, success stories, and multimedia content, the website will seek to change attitudes and perceptions towards disability in Nigerian society.
  • Service Access: Perhaps most importantly, the website will facilitate access to essential services for people with disabilities. This includes information on accessible transportation, healthcare facilities, assistive devices, and legal assistance. Users will be able to find and contact service providers directly through the website, streamlining the process of seeking support.
  • Building Partnerships for Impact: The success of this project will depend on collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, disability rights organizations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and technology companies. By forging partnerships and alliances, the Sir. David Osunde Foundation aims to leverage existing resources and expertise to maximize the impact of its digital platform.

THE FOUNDERS OF SIR DAVID OSUNDE FOUNDATION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (SDOF)

Sir David E. Osunde, KSS; JP is a lay practising Catholic who has been married for over 35 years. His strength is his belief in the Gospel message, while his strong desire is to make use of this as it is humanly possible in every situation, striving day-by-day to give effect to this message by practical actions. His assignments are usually very “tall” in some cases but not unachievable. “With God all things are possible” is his regular statement. This explains why he is into many projects, including music and drama, building and publishing. He has passionately dedicated his time, talent and treasury to a number of projects which he established, from his Annual Christian Family Xmas Carols competitions among Catholic parishes and non-Catholic churches to the annual prison programmes for in-mates aimed at improving their spiritual lives in the Archdiocese of Benin City. It has been a great joy for his family, friends and well-wishers since Pope John Paul II of blessed memory honoured him with an award of Papal Knight of St. Sylvester in 1992. His investiture took place in 1993. In 2005, his wife was similarly honoured as a Papal Knight of St. Sylvester by the reigning Pontiff, His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI. Her investiture took place on the 27th of May, 2006, on the birthday of her loving husband. What a better day for both husband and wife to celebrate!

Sensitivity to a fellow man is the inner quality of our person and the ability of our spirit. When it disappears, many a sadness occur first at our personal and then social level. Jesus showed us that far more important than any material gift is giving ourselves to each other. There can te no progress for the better in our society as long as people do not become gift and blessing to each other. Therefore, I would like to remind all the participants of the event organized by the Osunde Foundation, in order to underline the commitment for the lives of persons with disabilities, that God himself chose this path in his Son Jesus Christ, and by taking human body he gave himself for us on the cross and with his divine love joined in our suffering, to bestow on US the gift of the fullness of life

I am pleased to note that you consistently brought Jesus message to people with disabilities. Thus, your Foundation has played a significant role in society by emphasising the human dignity of the disabled. Your Foundation's dedication to the service of humanity is a response to Jesus' command to his disciples, as stated in the gospel of Mathew 14:16; "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." For a considerable number of years, your Foundation has been putting smiles on the faces of people living with disability across Nigeria. Every Easter Monday, your Foundation brings people living with disabilities to, in a unique way, experience the joy of the resurrection.
